Why “Mọ̀ngúdú”?
A mọ̀ngúdú is a thick clay pot, built to sit in heavy fire and feed many. The Yoruba remember it in a proverb:
“Eerin ku, mọ̀ngúdú fi jẹ; ẹfọn ku, mọ̀ngúdú fi jẹ; mọ̀ngúdú wa ku, ko ri ẹni ti yio jẹun.”
When the elephant dies, the clay pot helps eat it; when the buffalo dies, the clay pot helps eat it; when the pot itself breaks — there is no one to eat with it.
The pot serves everyone — and when it finally breaks, no one is left to serve it. I chose the name as a reminder, and a quiet promise: build things that serve, and honour the ones who served before you.
